Established Folk Group – RAS
At the Annual Parish Assembly held on December 14, 2025, the Serbian Orthodox Church of St. Simeon the Myrrh-Gusher in Miami adopted the decision to establish a folklore group within the parish, to be named the Cultural and Artistic Society “RAS” (CAS “RAS”).
The name RAS carries deep historical and spiritual significance. Ras was the first capital of the medieval Serbian state and the spiritual and political center from which the Nemanjić dynasty emerged. From this very root came St. Simeon the Myrrh-Gusher, whose name our church in Miami bears.
By founding CAS “RAS,” the parish of St. Simeon the Myrrh-Gusher creates a living bridge between the spiritual and cultural heritage of medieval Serbia and the life of the Serbian community in the diaspora.
Just as Ras once stood as a place of unity, faith, and gathering, our church today serves as a spiritual home for Serbian Orthodox faithful in Miami.
Through traditional folk dance, music, and national costume, CAS “RAS” is dedicated to preserving Serbian cultural heritage, passing it on to future generations, and presenting it with dignity to the wider community.
May the Lord bless the efforts of all who take part in the work of CAS “RAS,” for the joy of the Church, our children, and the entire Serbian community.
