Church Choir – Serving the Lord through Song
The church choir holds a special place in the liturgical worship and spiritual life of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Singing in the Church is not merely musical expression – it is prayer, a collective lifting of hearts and minds toward God. In the Orthodox tradition, singers are not performers, but co-ministers who help the congregation enter into deeper prayer and liturgical experience through their voices.
The choir at St. Simeon Church in Miami consists of dedicated parishioners of various ages who beautify the Divine Liturgies, feast days, weddings, baptisms, and other liturgical occasions with their singing. Their work is the fruit of love, faith, and fellowship.
The choir’s repertoire includes numerous traditional Orthodox chants and spiritual songs. Among the most frequently performed compositions are:
- “Holy God”
- “Praise the Name of the Lord”
- “We Sing to Thee”
- “It is Truly Meet”
- “Our Father”
- “By Thy Resurrection”
- “The Cherubic Hymn”
- “The Creed (I Believe)”
- “The Angel Cried Out” (for Pascha)
- Christmas and Paschal songs such as “Thy Nativity” and “Christ is Risen from the Dead”
These songs are not merely beautiful melodies – they carry deep theological messages and centuries-old traditions of Orthodox spirituality.
We invite all who have an ear, voice, and heart open to serving God to join our choir. Formal musical education is not required – sufficient is the desire to serve the Lord through singing and help the community grow in prayer.
To sing in the choir means to be part of the living body of the Church. Join us and let us glorify the Lord through song, in love, unity, and faith!
