Prayer to the Theotokos for Sunday
Full of mercy, Most Pure Virgin Mother of God, Mother of mercy and love for mankind, the great Hope and Refuge of ours!
O Mother of the Beloved, the longed-for and exalted above all love Savior Jesus Christ, the Lover of mankind and my God, Light of my darkened soul!
To You I, a great sinner and with no hope in any other, approach — Source of mercy and love for mankind. Have mercy on me, have mercy on me, I cry out to You in my pain; pity me, wounded one, fallen among fierce robbers, and without the garment in which my Father clothed me. Woe to me who lie naked and without good deeds! My wounds stink and rot because of my senseless life.
My Protectress, Most Holy Mother of God, I humbly beg You, look upon me with Your merciful eye, and do not despise me who am darkened and wholly defiled, drowned in deceptive pleasure and fallen into sin, having no hope that I can rise up by myself.
Have mercy on me and stretch out to me a helping hand; lift me from the depths of sins, O my Joy! Draw me out, deliver me from those who surround me, and let the light of Your face shine upon Your servant. Save the perishing, cleanse the unclean, raise up the one fallen into evil, for You can do all things, for You are the Mother of God Who can do all.
Pour out upon me the mercy of Your heart, and grant that I too may have a merciful heart. I have taken You as my only and true hope in my life.
Do not reject me who come to You, but look upon my sorrow, O Virgin Mother of God!
Receive my soul’s desires and this prayer and save me, Intercessor of my salvation! Amen.
