Sunday School

Every Church-School Community in the West, in its desire to help its parishioners in raising and educating children, organizes a Sunday School at the Church.

Parents dedicate maximum attention and care to their children so that the children can achieve their regular school obligations as successfully as possible, show good results, and create a good foundation for future higher education. Besides their work and daily activities with children, parents do not have the opportunity to work sufficiently with children on learning the Serbian language, history, geography, and religious education. Most often Serbian is spoken in homes, but this is not enough for children to be able to read and write in Cyrillic, as well as to learn about the additional beauties that Serbian heritage carries with it.

That is why the Church is here.

It is here to care, according to its capabilities, that children receive fundamental knowledge about what makes a good and honorable Orthodox Serb what he is. That is Faith, Scripture, and Glorious Past. Who we are, what we are, where we have been, and where we are going as a Nation. This is impossible to have without these foundations.

In Churches, Sunday Schools operate with more or less success. Most often they begin with enrollment of a large number of children, and then as the school year progresses, the number of children who come to classes begins to decrease.

Our Little School, thank God, has been operating very successfully for the third year now.

Our teachers, who are very dedicated and persistent, keep the classes interesting, so the school lasts the full school year with the awarding of certificates at the end. The love and dedication of the teachers during classes, as well as class preparation, are something that deserves only words of praise.

The sacrifice and effort of parents, who instead of spending that one day off somewhere else, spend it in Church at Divine Service while their children are in class, are immeasurable.

Our Sunday School is divided into three groups:

  1. Children aged 3-4 years old are the first group – LITTLE ANGELS
  2. Children aged 5-7 years old are the second group – GARDEN OF EDEN
  3. Children aged 8-14 years old are the third group – NOAH’S ARK

During the school year, children prepare three performances:

  • CHRISTMAS – For the Nativity
  • For Saint Sava
  • End of school year

During the school year, one field trip is planned and the last day is a children’s picnic.

From parents who enroll their children in Sunday School, it is expected that they leave their child in the classroom and during class time be in the Temple at Divine Service, and not be in the hall and near the classrooms, so as not to disrupt the course of instruction.
